The medical payments coverage protects you and the passengers if you were hurt in a car accident regardless of whom at fault. The coverage also extends to you and your family members, if you were a passenger by someone else’s car or you are a pedestrian injured by an automobile.
Medical payments coverage pay the medical bills result from an accident up to per person a maximum of $5000. There are no deductibles and no waiting periods under this coverage. Also, prescription drugs related to their injuries are covered.
For example, let’s say you and your passenger were both injured and taken to the hospital. The medical payment of $5000 will cover the costs of the ambulance, the emergency room visit, the doctor visit and the hospital room for up to $5000 per person.
If you’re medical bills cost $7000 and your passenger medical bills cost $3000. The medical payment coverage policy will pay $5000 plus $3000 a total of $8000, will be paid by the insurance. You will have to pay the remaining $2000 on your own.
Some states have a medical payments coverage known as personal injury protection or short for PIT. This coverage may have a deductible and may allow you to collect lost wages and rehabilitation expenses. Those are the two things regular medical payments coverage does not cover.
