The most expensive car insurance you will ever buy is when you are young. So what steps does it take when your teen become a new driver?

You could be paying a lot more when you put your kids into your policy. Step one for saving money is to keep them off your policy as long as you can. That might mean keeping your teen on the learning permit as long as they are allowed because some auto insurance don’t require coverage on a permit driver.

Also, think older cars for younger drivers. Why? Because premium on older cars are less expensive than newer cars. Try to get your teen cover on the least expensive car in the household and check the auto insurance prices before you buy any car for your teen. People don’t realize that these sporty cars your teen wants are expensive to cover.

Another thing that helps lower your premium cost is to ask for a discount, good driver, multiple cars, driving programs, and let’s not forget those good grades. The good student discount saves about 10%, which is a tremendous save on the premium.

One last thing, honesty will get you the best policy. Don’t forget to put your kids down when they are within the legal driving age because if they have an accident your policy could get void or you may have to pay for the accident yourself.
